The World Philharmonic Orchestra is one of the most remarkable ensembles in the world. Founded by the United Nations and the United Nations Children's Fund, it brings together the finest musicians - principals and instrumental soloists - from all five continents. The present recording was made at the orchestra's inaugural concert in 1985 and features Bruckner's Eighth Symphony conducted by one of the composer's leading interpreters, Carlo Maria Giulini. The players meet once a year in order to perform together to the highest standards and at the same time to set an example of peaceful coexistence amongst all men and women.
Although one of the most simple and effective methods of painting, watercolour remains one of the most difficult and frustrating techniques to master. In this release, world renowned tutor, Ron Ranson demonstrates his own painting style, using three brushes and seven colours and talks you through some of the more detailed techniques.
Maid Marian And Her Merry Men - Complete Series 2
Who steals from the rich to give to the poor? Who is the last bastion of truth, freedom and goodness for the peasants of Worksop? Who really gets up the Sheriff of Nottingham's big nose? ...Robin of Sherwood? No, he'd rather hide under trees to avoid any bruising to his perfect face or creasing of his lovely, non-catalogue, green outfit. Contrary to popular belief, it was Marian - strong, brave, blonde and bossy - who led the merry men. That would be the merry, lethargic, witless and everso slightly incompetent men! In the continuing saga of Tony (Baldrick) Robinson's most excellent Maid Marian series, we find the forest dwelling troupe getting into more scrapes and blunders to do good for the people of Worksop. Backed up by 'thick-as-a-brick' Rabies, aptly named Little Ron, and Rastafarian Barrington, (oh, and Robin), Marian tackles the might of Evil King John and the mischief of the Sheriff of Nottingham. Set in open woodland, events take surreal twists. The plots unravel though witty songs and film parodies, with sarcastic repartee and contemporary references, and are usually resolved in time for tea and for a big load of credit to plop smugly at Robin's feet! This perfectly conceived historical farce is witty, warm and stylish. It is one of those rare programmes made for and enjoyed by both children and adults and has secured a huge fan-base in the seventeen years since it was first transmitted. Contains the complete Series 2.
