The film won the Oscar at the 2004 Academy Awards (R) for Best Achievement In Cinematography and Sound Editing. Director, Peter Weir received the BAFTA 2003 for The David Lean Award For Achievement In Direction. The film also won an award for Production Design, Costume Design and Sound. Braveheart - Winner of five Academy Awards (R), including Best Film and Best Director, the outstanding epic true story of William Wallace. Mel Gibson as Braveheart gives a stunning performance that touches the heart, with this epic tale of a man who sacrifices himself for the love of his country.
