Couch Trip, The

Based on the novel by Ken Kolb that poses the theory that psychiatrists need more help than their clients. Dr. George Maitlin, a pretentious radio shrink, decides to take a sabbatical after his own mental breakdown. Before leaving for London, he orders his radio station to hire a hapless replacement so that his eventual return will be all the more welcome. When the station tries to contact Dr. Baird, the person who answers the phone assumes the doctor's identity and takes his new position behind the microphone. The assumed Dr. Baird, John Burns, is really a mental patient whose straight to the point advice turns him into an overnight success.
